Selling electronic products on Amazon US: Amazon asks for a UL report—is it mandatory?

It is not legally mandatory, but platforms and buyers often require it. UL (U.S. safety testing mark; not federally mandatory, but widely recognized by e-commerce platforms and large retailers) reports are used to prove that products comply with UL standards. Amazon US conducts spot checks for UL or equivalent safety reports in categories such as power supplies, chargers, and home appliances. Process: select the corresponding UL standard (e.g., UL 62368-1), send samples to a partner laboratory for testing; the cycle is 15–30 working days, and the reference cost is RMB 1,000–60,000. The Shuwang testing and certification platform can assist with standard selection and testing coordination; see https://www.shuwangtc.com for details.

Note: A UL report is not the same as UL certification. Amazon generally accepts UL standard test reports issued by laboratories with ISO 17025 accreditation. If the product has wireless functionality, FCC ID or SDoC is also required; if it contains a battery, UN38.3 is required.
