Do I need to worry about dual-use item export controls when occasionally selling sensors in cross-border e-commerce?

Published in English.

Yes. Some sensors, chips, etc. may be dual-use items (usable for both civilian and military purposes) and are subject to the Regulations on Export Control of Dual-Use Items. The new regulations effective from December 2024 require determining whether items are on the control list before export; violations may result in administrative penalties. It is recommended to self-check against the list and apply for a license when necessary.

Cross-border e-commerce retail exports are equally subject to control requirements and cannot be ignored simply because the value per shipment is small. When uncertain, determine through the official list or professional institutions to avoid legal risks. The latest list from the Ministry of Commerce shall prevail.

Reversing that order usually costs an extra round of sample and an extra round of testing.

Service boundary: Shuwang Certification Platform is an export certification solution provider. It does not perform testing and is not a certification body. Testing described on this page is carried out by partner laboratories accredited to CNAS/CMA or ISO/IEC 17025; certificates are issued by EU Notified Bodies or by the authorised bodies of the destination country. Lead times and cost ranges are public industry references and depend on engineer assessment and body scheduling.
