What certifications are required for exporting to Africa? Why is COC always required?

Published in English.

Most African countries implement "pre-shipment conformity assessment," and the deliverable is uniformly called COC (Certificate of Conformity), but the system names and competent authorities differ by country: Kenya calls it PVoC (KEBS), Tanzania calls it PVoC (TBS), Nigeria calls it SONCAP (SON, issuing PC and SC), Egypt calls it COC (GOEIC), and Zimbabwe calls it CBCA (SAZ). What they have in common is: handled before shipment, certificates issued per shipment, customs clearance impossible without a certificate, and certificates from each country are not mutually recognized.

When shipping integrated consignments to multiple African countries, the most cost-effective approach is to unify the test report (ISO 17025 laboratory), then separately apply to each country's authorized agency for certificates.

Shuwang engineers have run this category often enough to know the bottleneck is usually the paperwork before submission, not the lab.

Service boundary: Shuwang Certification Platform is an export certification solution provider. It does not perform testing and is not a certification body. Testing described on this page is carried out by partner laboratories accredited to CNAS/CMA or ISO/IEC 17025; certificates are issued by EU Notified Bodies or by the authorised bodies of the destination country. Lead times and cost ranges are public industry references and depend on engineer assessment and body scheduling.
