Amazon US Listing of Power Adapters Required to Supplement UL Report: Rectification Path for Model and Nameplate Inconsistency

Published in English.

A power adapter factory in Shenzhen with annual exports of about RMB 20 million listed a 65W GaN charger on Amazon US in September 2026. The product had obtained an FCC SDoC and a CE-LVD report, and the factory believed North American compliance was complete, so it directly wrote "UL certified" as a selling point in the Listing. Two weeks after listing, the Listing was taken down by Amazon's compliance team, which required a UL safety test report and certificate number.

The UL report provided by the factory had two major flaws: first, the product model in the report was "AD-65W-A," while the Amazon Listing and product nameplate showed "AD-65W-Pro," so the models were inconsistent; second, the manufacturer name in the report was the contract manufacturer, but the brand owner registered in the Amazon backend was another trading company, and the relationship could not be proven. In addition, the report had been issued in 2023 under the old second edition of UL 62368-1, while Amazon's review team required a third-edition report or a difference test explanation. The factory contacted the original laboratory on its own to supplement the testing and was told that new samples would need to be submitted and RMB 18,000 paid, with a lead time of 4 weeks, far exceeding its replenishment plan.

The engineer at the Shuwang testing and certification platform first checked the compliance document requirements in the Amazon backend and confirmed that the product belonged to the "external power supply" category, requiring a third-edition UL 62368-1 report, and the model in the report had to be completely consistent with the Listing. The factory was organized to provide product nameplate photos, a BOM, and specification sheets for the transformer and capacitor, and communicated with a partner laboratory (with CNAS and ISO 17025 qualifications) on a difference testing plan: only key safety components and structural differences would be supplementarily tested, with no need for full retesting. The factory was assisted in issuing a "Model Consistency Statement," explaining that AD-65W-A and AD-65W-Pro were different sales models of the same product, with an internal model cross-reference table attached, stamped by the manufacturer and submitted to Amazon for review. The compliance wording in the Listing was simultaneously updated, deleting the words "UL certified" and changing them to "safety testing completed in accordance with UL 62368-1; report available upon request," to avoid triggering another review due to inaccurate promotional wording.

The difference testing was completed within 12 working days, and the laboratory issued a third-edition UL 62368-1 report, with the cost controlled at around RMB 8,000 (reference range). The factory submitted the new report, the model consistency statement, and the brand authorization chain documents together, and the Listing was restored after 5 working days. The factory subsequently unified its model naming rules to prevent model mismatches in subsequent products.

Amazon US's review of safety reports for electronic products takes "model consistency" as the first principle: the report model, the Listing, and the nameplate must correspond exactly, and any differences require a written statement. After a UL standard edition change, the old report does not become invalid immediately, but platform review may require supplementary difference testing; confirming version differences with the laboratory in advance can save 30%–50% of duplicate testing costs.
