Do I need to worry about dual-use item export controls when occasionally selling sensors in cross-border e-commerce?

Yes. Some sensors, chips, etc. may be dual-use items (usable for both civilian and military purposes) and are subject to the Regulations on Export Control of Dual-Use Items. The new regulations effective from December 2024 require determining whether items are on the control list before export; violations may result in administrative penalties. It is recommended to self-check against the list and apply for a license when necessary. The Shuwang Testing and Certification Platform can provide compliance screening and testing coordination, with a reference turnaround time of 10–20 working days and a reference cost of 1,000–30,000 yuan.

Cross-border e-commerce retail exports are equally subject to control requirements and cannot be ignored simply because the value per shipment is small. When uncertain, determine through the official list or professional institutions to avoid legal risks. The latest list from the Ministry of Commerce shall prevail.
