Selling children's toys on Amazon Europe, and the platform is asking me to provide an EN71 report. What exactly does this report test, and how much does it cost?

EN71 (the EU toy safety standard, assessed under the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC, and only after passing can the CE mark be applied) is not a single certificate but a set of tests: EN71-1 physical and mechanical properties, EN71-2 flammability, EN71-3 migration of certain elements, and for some product categories also EN71-4/-5/-7 and chemical requirements. Reference range: lead time 7–15 working days, cost 1,000–12,000 RMB, with differences mainly coming from the variety of materials and the number of colors. Amazon review looks at the complete report issued by a partner laboratory; the report header must match the store entity or manufacturer, and the model number must correspond. The Shuwang testing and certification platform handles sample and document pre-review, laboratory selection, and remediation coaching; testing is completed and reports are issued by partner laboratories with CNAS/CMA qualifications.

The most common reasons sellers get rejected are that the report model number does not match the listing, missing EN71-3 (heavy metal migration, the limit test for harmful elements that can leach out of toy materials) test items grouped by material, or the report exceeding the platform's recognized validity period. It is recommended to send the SKU with the most colors and the most mixed materials for testing in one go, and make a coverage declaration for the rest of the same series.
